Hidden Gems in Ibiza Beyond the Clubs

Ibiza has been many things to many people. But strip away the superlatives — the biggest DJ, the longest queue, the loudest room — and what remains is quietly extraordinary: a Balearic island of crumbling fincas, wild rosemary, turquoise coves, and food that takes the produce seriously. The version worth coming back for is not the one in the brochures.

SECRET BEACHES

01 — Cala d'en Serra (North coast · Remote) A narrow inlet near Portinatx, reachable by a short walk from a rough car park. The water is crystalline, the cliffs are pine-covered, and there's a small chiringuito doing grilled fish. Go on a weekday before noon. [Button: Boat tours from San Antonio → GetYourGuide]

02 — Cala Llentrisca (West coast · Boat access) One of the few remaining unspoiled coves on the southwest coast — accessible only by sea or a long trail through protected land. No facilities. Hire a boat from Es Cubells or join a sailing excursion from Ibiza Town. [Button: Sailing excursions → GetYourGuide]

03 — Cala Olivera (South · Local favourite) A small working harbour near Santa Eulàlia that doubles as a beach. Few tourists, excellent fish, extraordinary late-afternoon light. [Button: Hotels near Santa Eulàlia → Booking.com?aid=FESTIVORA]

SUNSET SPOTS

04 — Ses Variades (Sant Antoni · Quieter) A low-key terrace bar slightly inland from the sunset strip. Cheaper drinks, quieter music, identical sky. Attracts a local-leaning crowd. Highly recommended.

05 — Dalt Vila walls at sunset (Ibiza Town · Free) Walk up through the Portal de ses Taules to the upper ramparts of the UNESCO-listed old city. The westward view at 9pm in July is cinematic and almost nobody is watching it. [Button: Dalt Vila guided walks → GetYourGuide]

LOCAL RESTAURANTS

06 — Bar Costa, Santa Gertrudis A village square institution since the 1960s. Bocadillos, jamón, local wine, walls covered in paintings by artists who paid for their meals in kind. Order the jamón, sit outside, take your time. [Button: Reserve tables in Ibiza → OpenTable]

07 — La Paloma, Sant Llorenç Set in an almond and orange grove. Mediterranean menu with Italian influence — excellent pasta, serious vegetables, desserts that require no apology. Book ahead. [Button: Book a table → OpenTable]

08 — Restaurante Cala Nova, Es Canar A modest terrace restaurant on the beach. The fish is caught within sight of your table. Arrive at 2pm, order whatever came in that morning, stay as long as you like.

MARKETS & CONCEPT STORES

  • Las Dalias Hippy Market, Sant Carles — The original. Saturday mornings. Jewellery, vintage clothing, ceramics. Buy something, even if it's small.

  • Punta Arabí Market, Es Canar — Wednesday only. High-quality leather goods and handmade textiles. Go early.

  • Mercat Vell, Ibiza Town — Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Local produce, olive oil, fresh herbs. The best place to provision a finca for a week.

  • Sluiz, Ibiza Town — Part concept store, part gallery. Books, design objects, things that resist categorisation. Worth the walk.

WELLNESS HIDEAWAYS

09 — Atzaró Agroturismo & Spa (North · Multi-day) A 17th-century finca surrounded by 50,000 orange trees. The outdoor thermal circuit — pools, steam, cold plunge — in a garden setting. Day spa available to non-guests by prior booking. [Button: Mr & Mrs Smith Ibiza hotels] [Button: Book Atzaró → Booking.com?aid=FESTIVORA]

10 — Yoga Ibiza (West coast · Morning sessions) Outdoor yoga platforms set into the hillside above the western coast. Morning sessions from 8am, drop-in available. The view during Savasana is difficult to improve upon. [Button: Book yoga sessions → Klook]

THE MORNING AFTER

The ritual: a slow swim before 9am at Cala Comte or Ses Salines, then the fruit market at Mercat Vell, then strong coffee from any bar on Carrer de la Mare de Déu. Horizontal time optional but advised.

Blue Marlin Ibiza opens for lunch — the pool area is genuinely civilised before noon. Nassau Beach Club at Playa d'en Bossa follows the same logic.

Recovery kit: coconut water, morning swim, breakfast at Can Caus in Santa Gertrudis, polarised sunglasses, Battleface travel insurance.

WHERE TO STAY

  • Can Lluc — Boutique finca hotel, genuinely good breakfast, excellent base. [Booking.com?aid=FESTIVORA]

  • Aguas de Ibiza, Santa Eulàlia — Best spa hotel on the island. [Mr & Mrs Smith]

  • El Hotel Pacha, Ibiza Town — Connected to the original club, serious pool deck. [Booking.com?aid=FESTIVORA]
